Fried Bread With Tea -- Oolong Koeksister Recipe

Sweet deep-fried bread balanced with oolong tea to help your digestion. Try this very easy tea recipe.

Use only loose leaf, to ensure freshness.

INGREDIENTS:
1 lb flour
1 tsp baking powder (or instant yeast)
pinch of salt
2 oz butter
2 eggs
1/8 pint milk
1 tsp Formosa Green Jade Oolong, ground as fine as possible
oil for deep frying
treacle or syrup for dipping
desicated coconut for topping *optional

DIRECTIONS:
Sift flour, baking powder (or yeast) and salt by using a seive then add butter.

Beat eggs, milk and Formosa Green Jade Oolong. Then add to the flour.

Knead dough then roll trout into a 3/4 inches thick log. Then cut every 2 inches.

Heat up oil in a saucepan.

When ready, drop 3 to 4 koeksisters for every batch and wait for them to rise into the surface.

When they do show up on the surface, turn them over to make sure it cookes evenly.

Get them from the oil and quickly dip them into the treacel or syrup.

In a deep pan or saucepan, add oil and when it’s hot, drop 3 to 4 koeksister at a time into the oil. When they are cooked, they will pop up to the surface. Then turn them over quickly and immediately dip them into a bowl of cold syrup.

Sprinkle coconut if desired.
